Research Methodology

For every employer, QuestJobs evaluates:

• Is the company actively operating in Nova Scotia?
• Does it have an established business presence?
• Is it consistently recruiting employees?
• Does it hire occupations relevant to the pathway?
• Does publicly available information indicate that it satisfies the key employer characteristics published by the province?

We then cross-reference these findings against live recruitment activity inside the QuestJobs database — the same database used across our labour-market and immigration-pathway research — to see which employers are not just plausible fits, but actively hiring right now.

Shannex is the clear leader in our dataset, and by a wide margin.

What QuestJobs' data shows:

• Majority of jobs are for the Continuing Care Assistant role, with a handful of related titles (Continuing Care Assistant – DePaul Hall, Long-Term Care Assistant, and a "Future Talent Pipeline" posting)
• Hiring spans six Nova Scotia communities: Halifax , Bedford, Brookfield, Bridgewater, province-wide "Nova Scotia" listings, and Truro

• Recruitment is spread across eight communities, including Bedford , Middle Musquodoboit, Kentville, Bridgewater, Windsor, Peggy's Cove, Halifax, and Lower Sackville 

Home healthcare continues to experience significant labour shortages in Nova Scotia, and this data reflects that: broad geographic reach paired with consistently full-time roles.

3. Nova Scotia Health Authority

Nova Scotia Health Authority remains one of the province's largest healthcare employers, recruiting across numerous hospitals, clinics, and community facilities province-wide. It appears to satisfy several important employer characteristics, including long-established provincial operations, a large permanent workforce, and continuous healthcare recruitment.

4. MacLeod Cares

Active locations are Shelburne and Trenton.

MacLeod Cares operates multiple long-term care homes throughout Nova Scotia, and demand for long-term care professionals continues to grow as the province's population ages — making this a sector worth watching even where current posting volume is modest.

5. Home Instead

Active hiring locations for Home Instead in this pathway are Halifax and Enfield.

Home Instead provides in-home senior care services across Nova Scotia, part of a home-care sector that has become increasingly important as provincial healthcare systems expand community-based care.
